Book your stayDolní Dvůr is one of the quieter parts of the Krkonoše Mountains. No mass tourism, yet with easy access to the mountains, the trails and the ski resorts.
The mountain village of Dolní Dvůr lies in the very heart of the Krkonoše Mountains at 641 m above sea level, in the valleys of the Klínový and Kotelský streams – the source waters of the Malé Labe. Set between Vrchlabí, Strážné, Lánov and Pec pod Sněžkou, it makes an ideal base for exploring the Krkonoše ridges all year round.
The centre of the village is Rudné náměstí square with the Church of St Joseph, built in 1802–1806 on the site of a former ore smelter. The church tower holds a unique carillon from 1995 – it plays at 10:00 and 17:00 on weekdays and also at 12:00 at weekends, with different melodies for each season of the year.

The starting point is Rudné náměstí square. The yellow trail takes you across Hanapetrova paseka meadow (840 m a.s.l.) – a spot with visible traces of 19th-century ore mining – and on to Zadní Rennerovky. From there the red trail leads to the Na rozcestí chalet, past Výrovka and the Memorial to the Victims of the Mountains, all the way to the legendary Luční bouda (1 410 m a.s.l.).
Luční bouda is the oldest mountain chalet on the Krkonoše ridge – its history goes back to 1623. Today it offers accommodation, a restaurant and a spa with beer baths, plus the highest-altitude microbrewery in Central Europe (Paroháč beer). From Luční bouda the blue trail leads to Sněžka (1 603 m a.s.l.) – the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, with views into Poland. At the summit you'll find a Czech post office with its own stamp.
From the square follow the yellow trail towards Vrchlabí as far as the junction above Dolní Dvůr. There you join the blue trail towards Rejdiště – you can also join it in Horní Lánov, where the route crosses the Dolní Dvůr–Lánov road (about 50 m from the sign marking the start of the village).
Rejdiště is a place wrapped in legend – witches, goblins and wild women are said to romp here. Giants from Hostinné supposedly trampled the hilly land almost flat with their footsteps. The blue trail continues on to Pec pod Sněžkou with its cable car up Sněžka.
Follow the road through the Klínový stream valley up to the quarry in Strážné. From there the green trail leads past the Hnědé skály rocks and the Nad Krásnou plání junction to Michlův mlýn, where the path forks:
For the way back you can take the cable car to Pláně – from there either along the blue trail past the Klínové boudy chalets to Na rozcestí and the yellow trail down to Dolní Dvůr, or along the green trail back to Strážné.
The route runs through the Kotelský stream valley, past the Godrovy domky houses and Zlatý mlýn, then along the green trail known as the lightning path (named after its zigzag course) straight up to Tetřeví boudy. From there two continuations are on offer:
From Liščí hora continue along the red trail back to the Na rozcestí chalet, where you can choose your own way home.
One of the two most famous film locations in the Krkonoše Mountains! The Apalucha cottage is linked to the cult Czech comedy S tebou mě baví svět (1982). The route runs through the Kotelský stream valley to the seasonal KRNAP information centre in Rudolfov – from there turn right to Zlatý mlýn and on to the Horská cesta path. The way back leads past the Zvonička cottage to the junction in Kotel and then down to Dolní Dvůr.
From the square through Luisino údolí valley along the ski resort to Liberecká bouda, ending at Hříběcí boudy. The limestone quarry is one of five natural monuments in the Krkonoše National Park – Krkonoše marble was mined here from the 18th century until the 1970s. Today it is home to the alpine newt, the common frog, bats in the adit and the rare common adder.
A historical curiosity: after the war the comedian Vlasta Burian spent time here in „exile“, winning over the locals with improvised performances in the pubs – his only reward was a beer.
Along the yellow trail past the Morava hotel to Hanapetrova paseka meadow (traces of 19th-century ore mining). At the junction above Hanapetr switch to the green trail and you'll reach the Memorial – an unassuming spot deep in the forest with a mysterious history: legend has it that a gamekeeper was shot nearby during a school excursion, and the case has never been solved.
The route continues past Husí boudy and the Klecanda guest house – worth a stop, its kitchen is famous for homemade blueberry cake with coffee.
An easy walk along a historical trail. From Rudné náměstí square upstream along the Klínový stream, past the timbered house no. 72 – the first school in Dolní Dvůr, dating from 1808. A forest path leads to the Ferra chalet on Vápenice with views over the countryside. From there the yellow trail takes you to Strážné – you can refuel in the local restaurant or the Horský bar. The way back is an easy walk along the asphalt road past the quarry.
